ASHA will mobilise the community and make it easier for them to access health and health-related services offered at Anganwadis, sub-centers, and primary health centres, such as immunizations, Ante Natal Check-ups (ANC), Post Natal Check-ups, supplemental nutrition, sanitation, and other services being provided by the government.
ASHA must primarily be a woman from the community who is married, widowed, or divorced, ideally between the ages of 25 and 45. She should be literate, and selection should give preference to candidates who have completed up to the 10th grade and are available in sufficient numbers.
